Novaform only exists inside Costco. That single fact turns out to explain most of what owners say about it, and it is the reason a mediocre score on this page is not the same thing as a bad buy.
We read 302 Reddit posts and comments across 102 r/Mattress threads and kept the 120 written by owners. Of the 100 who come down clearly, 49 would buy again and 51 would not.
That number is close to meaningless on its own, because the name covers two products that owners judge in opposite directions.
We have not tested this mattress, we have not owned one, and nobody here has slept on one. We are analysts reading what owners wrote, which is why every number below arrives with its denominator.
Novaform, sold at Costco

How we read it
Every item was sorted by what the writer is to this mattress: somebody who owns one, somebody whose order is on the way, a shopper weighing it up, or a person repeating what they had heard. Only the first group is counted anywhere on this page.
Two threads came out entirely, one about a bed frame to put a Novaform on and one about a mattress protector. Two owners turned out to own a Novaform topper on somebody else’s mattress, and two more had not bought anything yet.
Mention frequency in a self selected sample. Not a failure rate, and not a share of buyers. People with a problem write more often than people without one.
One name, two mattresses, opposite verdicts
Read those bars as counts. Among owners who name a single model and take a side:
- ComfortGrande, the long-running gel foam best-seller: 2 positive out of 17, across 15 different threads.
- Platinum Luxury Hybrid, launched at the end of 2025: 12 positive out of 13, across 11 threads.
- Legacy, the hybrid in between: 3 out of 8.
The spread across threads matters. This is not one delighted corner or one pile-on; the ComfortGrande complaints come from fifteen separate conversations.
And now the caveat, which is not optional. Every Platinum owner in this corpus is in their first year, and most are in their first weeks. ComfortGrande owners range from a few months to seven years. We are comparing a honeymoon to a marriage, and one owner in the corpus says so himself while defending his own camp:

That is an owner explaining the bias in his own data, and it is more honest than most analysis.
There is one more twist. On Costco’s own site, the Platinum is the lowest rated model in the range at 4.2 out of 5, while the ComfortGrande shows 4.5 across 19,060 reviews. Our owners say the reverse. Two self-selected samples pointing opposite ways is not a contradiction to resolve; it is a reason to be careful with both.

The complaints that recur are firmness, heat and smell
Firmness is the biggest theme: 54 owners raise it, 33 of them negatively. The direction is consistent and it is not the one you would expect from memory foam. The word owners reach for is hard.
The Novaform is hard as a rock

Several add that it softened noticeably after a month or two, which is worth knowing before you decide in week one.
Heat is smaller and sharper: 11 owners raise it, 9 negatively, and almost all of them name the foam ComfortGrande rather than a hybrid.
Smell is the theme nobody tests for, and it is genuinely split. Fifteen owners raise it, ten negatively. One owner had a unit exchanged for that reason alone. But others go out of their way to say the opposite, including somebody who describes themselves as sensitive to chemical odours and found nothing at all. That is the correct conclusion, and it is the reason we are not giving you a percentage for it.
The real product is the return policy
This is the part that changes the decision, and it has nothing to do with the foam.
Costco’s satisfaction guarantee has a published list of exceptions with time limits: electronics at 90 days, diamonds, tyres, special orders, and a dozen more. Mattresses are not on that list. There is no stated night limit and no restocking fee, and collection for a bulk-delivered mattress goes back the way it came.
Owners treat that as part of the product rather than as a safety net:

Twenty five owners raise returns, exchanges or the warranty, and unlike every other brand we have read this year, they split roughly evenly at 10 to 11. On a mattress you cannot lie on first, that is a meaningful difference.
The catch is where you buy it. Novaform also sells directly on its own site, where the Serafina was $749 to $899 against $549 at Costco the day we looked, and where we could find no returns or trial policy published at all. The generosity in this story belongs to the retailer, not to the brand. Buy it anywhere else and you are buying a different deal.

What Reddit cannot tell you about this mattress
Whether the Platinum holds up. Nobody in this corpus has owned one for a year. Its 12 out of 13 is a first-impressions score and should be read as one.
Whether the ComfortGrande is as bad as it looks here. Seventeen clear verdicts is a real signal but a small sample, set against 19,060 reviews on Costco’s own page at 4.5 out of 5. Both are self-selected. We would not bet on either being the truth on its own.
Anything about half the range. LuxGrand, DynamicSupport, Advanced Back Support and SoFresh draw no owners at all. Serafina draws four.
Anything by profile. Twenty nine owners state a sleeping position and twenty a weight, none above 205 lb.
How long any of them last. Only nine owners in the whole corpus report three years or more.
The corpus is front-loaded with new releases. Three launch threads for the Legacy Elite, the Platinum and the Serafina supply just over a third of everything written, which is why first-week impressions are over-represented and why the Platinum looks the way it does.
The bottom line
A mattress you buy because of who sells it.
If you are shopping at Costco anyway, the case here is not that Novaform builds a better bed than the brands it undercuts. It is that you can put one in your bedroom and change your mind later without a fee, a deadline or an argument, which is worth real money on a purchase nobody can evaluate in a showroom.
On the models, our reading gives one clear steer and one honest shrug. The steer: the foam ComfortGrande draws the complaints, on firmness and on heat, from owners spread across fifteen threads. The shrug: the Platinum looks excellent and every owner saying so has had it for a matter of weeks.
Worth your shortlist if
- You are a Costco member. The return terms are the strongest part of this purchase by a distance.
- You want to try a bed at home with no clock running and no fee if you send it back.
- You are buying a hybrid rather than the all foam ComfortGrande.
- You want a lot of mattress for the money and can live with an unknown lifespan.
Think twice if
- You are buying the ComfortGrande. It draws 2 positive owner verdicts out of 17 here.
- You sleep hot. Nine of the eleven owners who raise heat name the foam models.
- You want proof the Platinum lasts. Nobody in this corpus has owned one a full year.
- You are buying it on the brand’s own site. Higher price, and no published return policy.
