This is the biggest name in the category and the largest corpus we have read: 1,318 Reddit posts and comments across 332 r/Mattress threads, of which 518 are written by people who own or owned one.
Among the 390 owners who come down clearly, 190 would buy again and 200 would not. On the brand’s own product pages the same beds carry ratings between 4.24 and 4.55 out of five. Both numbers are real. The distance between them is what this page is about.
We checked that split three ways before printing it, because a coin flip is exactly the kind of number that turns out to be two loud threads. Counted by comment it is 49 percent. Counted one vote per thread it is 49 percent. The median thread is 50 percent. Of the eighteen threads carrying five or more clear verdicts, not one is unanimous.
We have not tested this mattress, we have not owned one, and nobody here has slept on one. We are analysts reading what owners wrote, which is why every number below arrives with its denominator.

How we read it
Every item was sorted by what the writer is to this mattress: somebody who owns one, somebody whose order is on the way, a shopper weighing it up, or a person repeating what they had heard. Only the first group is counted anywhere on this page.
Twenty one threads came out entirely because the word Tempur was attached to a pillow, a topper, a mattress protector, bed sheets or an adjustable base rather than to a mattress. Eleven owner labels were downgraded by hand: shop-floor trials, hotel stays, people who own a rival brand, one Tempur employee who bought on a staff discount, and two duplicate posts where the same writer had pasted the same biography into a third thread.
Mention frequency in a self selected sample. Not a failure rate, and not a share of buyers. People with a problem write more often than people without one.
The oldest owners are the happiest, and that is not the compliment it looks like
Of the 390 owners who take a side, 190 also say how long they have owned the bed. Sorted by tenure, the pattern is the strongest in any corpus we have read:

Now the caveat, and it is a big one. Somebody posting about a seventeen year old mattress is, by definition, somebody whose mattress lasted seventeen years. The people whose bed failed at year four are not in the fifteen year bucket; they are in the shops. This is survivorship bias in its purest form, and it inflates that bottom row by an amount nobody can calculate.
So the honest reading is not that they made them better before. It is narrower and still useful: long-term owners are overwhelmingly satisfied, recent owners split 43 percent positive, and this corpus cannot tell you which explanation is right.
What we can add is one fact that is not an opinion, taken from the brand’s own warranty page. The mattress sold before March 2014 carried a 25 year warranty. From 2014 to October 2022 it was ten years with full replacement. Since October 2022 it is ten years limited. Whatever else has changed, the people in that bottom row did not buy the product currently on sale, and they did not buy it under today’s terms.
One owner contains the whole tension in a single post: nineteen happy years on an original, then three ProAdapts they disliked, and contentment again on a LuxeAdapt.

The complaint is sinking, not firmness
Firmness is the biggest theme, raised by 239 of the 518 owners, and it is nearly balanced: 111 positive against 102 negative. Underneath that balance the complaint has a clear direction. Roughly 69 owner posts describe sinking in too far. Roughly 36 describe it arriving too firm.

Side sleepers are the largest declared group in the corpus and the least well served: of 65 side sleepers with a clear verdict, 24 are positive and 41 are not. Combination sleepers land in the same region at 11 and 17. Back and stomach sleepers are too few to say anything about, at seven and six.
A related complaint has nothing to do with the foam and everything to do with how the bed is bought. Several owners report that the mattress at home never matched the one they lay on in the shop:

The cooling upgrade actually moves the needle
This is the clearest buying signal in the corpus, and it is a positive one.
Temperature is raised by 126 owners. Split them by whether their own text names a Breeze model:
- Names a Breeze: 28 positive, 16 negative.
- Does not: 23 positive, 40 negative.

Others describe the upgrade as a deliberate, targeted purchase rather than an indulgence:

The caveat here is self-selection, and it cuts hard. People who pay the Breeze premium are usually people who already knew they slept hot and bought specifically to fix it. That measures relative satisfaction with a purchase decision, not the temperature of a mattress. What it does tell you is that the owners who paid for the upgrade rarely regret that part, while dense memory foam without it draws heat complaints steadily.
Read those bars as counts. No line clears a sample large enough to rank against another with confidence, and four of them sit below five clear verdicts, which is why they show a sample and no score. The useful observation is not that one line beats another; it is that nothing here separates the way tenure and the Breeze upgrade do.
Getting out is the worst-reported part, and half these beds were not bought from the brand
Returns, exchanges and warranty is the most lopsided theme in the corpus: of 85 owners who raise it and take a side, 22 are positive and 63 are not, spread over 53 different threads, so this is not one grievance amplified.
The policy explains part of it. Ninety nights, but the brand asks you to sleep on it for thirty nights before starting a return, and the refund comes back minus a return shipping fee whose amount is not stated anywhere on the site we could find. Closeout mattresses are excluded from the trial entirely, and adjustable bases cannot be returned at all. Warranty coverage begins at a visible dip of three quarters of an inch, and is voided by an unsupportive base.
But the larger explanation is a distribution fact, and it changes what any return advice is worth. A great many owners in this corpus did not buy from tempurpedic.com. They bought at Costco, at Mattress Firm, at the outlet, on eBay, secondhand, or inherited the bed. The ninety nights, the shipping fee and the warranty terms above apply to a direct purchase. Buy the same mattress elsewhere and you are on that seller’s terms.
That is worth knowing in both directions. One owner who bought the Costco version returned it there for heat while keeping and praising the base. Under the brand’s own policy, that base could not have gone back at all.

What Reddit cannot tell you about this mattress
Whether the old ones really were better. It is the question this corpus most tempts you to answer and least entitles you to. See the survivorship caveat above.
Anything about body weight. We split the owners three ways, above 230 lb, 150 to 229, and under 150, and the results are flat at roughly a third positive in every band. If you have read that this bed is unsuitable for heavier sleepers, our corpus does not support it. It does not support the opposite either.
Anything about four of the seven lines. Cloud, Contour, Rhapsody and ActiveBreeze draw one to three owners each. Two of those, Contour and Rhapsody, no longer appear in the brand’s own sitemap at all, so owner talk about them is talk about discontinued products.
Anything about the price paid. Ninety owners discuss cost, but the purchase channels are so varied that no comparable figure exists.
Anything about customer service. Fourteen owners raise it, split six and five. The theme exists; the sample does not.
The corpus is recent and it was gathered for other pages. Three quarters of the dated items are from 2025 and 2026, 169 items carry no date at all, and these mentions came out of research for our guides on hot sleepers, heavier sleepers and cheaper beds, which over-represents heat and budget by construction. The counterweight is that the two largest threads in the corpus are both positive, which is part of why the score sits at half rather than lower.
The bottom line
A coin flip that stops being one once you know which question you are answering.
Two decisions in this corpus separate the happy owners from the unhappy ones, and neither is which model you pick. The first is heat: owners who paid for a Breeze report far better on temperature than owners who did not, and dense memory foam without that upgrade draws complaints steadily. The second is how you sleep: side sleepers are the largest group here and the least satisfied, and the complaint that recurs is sinking too far rather than lying on something too hard.
And there is the thing the long-term owners cannot quite tell you. They are delighted, they are the best advertisement this brand has, and they bought a different mattress under a warranty that no longer exists.
Worth your shortlist if
- You sleep hot and will pay for a Breeze. That upgrade is the clearest positive signal in this corpus.
- You want the deep memory foam feel specifically, rather than a bed that sleeps on top.
- You are buying direct and will use the ninety nights properly.
- You are replacing an old Tempur you liked. Long-term owners are the most satisfied group here by a distance.
Think twice if
- You sleep on your side. 41 of 65 side sleepers with a verdict would not buy again.
- You dislike sinking in. That is the dominant complaint, ahead of firmness in either direction.
- You are judging it from a showroom. Owners repeatedly report the bed at home feeling unlike the display.
- You are buying the entry lines to get the name. Nothing in this corpus says the badge alone earns it.

What is verifiable from the brand’s own warranty page is that the terms changed: 25 years before March 2014, then ten years with full replacement, and ten years limited since October 2022.
Which Tempur-Pedic is best for hot sleepers?
The Breeze lines, on owner reports. Among the 126 owners who raise temperature, those whose posts name a Breeze split 28 positive to 16, and those who do not split 23 to 40. Read that as satisfaction among people who paid to solve a problem they already had, rather than as a laboratory measurement, but the direction is consistent and it is the clearest positive signal in the corpus.
Is the Costco Tempur-Pedic the same mattress?
Our corpus cannot settle it, and we are not going to guess. What it does show is that a large share of owners bought outside tempurpedic.com, at Costco, Mattress Firm, the outlet or secondhand, and that this matters more than the specification: the ninety night trial, the return shipping fee and the warranty terms apply to a direct purchase. Whatever the mattress, the terms you get are the seller’s.
