Saatva shows 4.8 out of 5 from 6,220 reviews on its flagship Classic. We read 731 Reddit posts and comments across 201 r/Mattress threads and kept the 245 written by owners.
Of the 208 who come down clearly, 81 would buy again and 127 would not.
That is a wide gap, and unusually for this site we can tell you it is not a sampling trick. We measured the two populations separately: threads that are about Saatva give 38 percent, and mentions inside other brands’ threads give 40. There is no hidden bias making this look worse than it is. And no single thread carries it either, the largest swing from removing any one of them being three points.
We have not tested this mattress, we have not owned one, and nobody here has slept on one. We are analysts reading what owners wrote, which is why every number below arrives with its denominator.

How we read it
Every item was sorted by what the writer is to this mattress: somebody who owns one, somebody whose order is on the way, a shopper weighing it up, or a person repeating what they had heard. Only the first group is counted anywhere on this page.
Six owner labels came out by hand: two showroom trials, two people whose Saatva was a topper on another brand’s mattress, one who never says they owned anything, and one post from a testing lab that had bought two units to compare them.
Mention frequency in a self selected sample. Not a failure rate, and not a share of buyers. People with a problem write more often than people without one.
The firmness the brand recommends is the one owners regret
This is the most actionable finding on the page, and it points at the buying process rather than at the bed.
Among owners who name a single firmness and take a side:
- Luxury Firm: 3 positive out of 16, across 15 different threads.
- Firm: 16 out of 43, across 38 threads.
- Plush Soft: 7 out of 13, across 12 threads.
Luxury Firm is the level the brand pushes hardest and the one its questionnaire most often returns. It is also, in this corpus, the one people most often wish they had not bought.
The complaint is not that it is too hard, which is what the name suggests. Several owners describe the opposite:

Others land the other way on the Firm and describe it as unyieldingly hard on delivery. Both complaints exist on the same range, which means the names are not carrying the information a buyer needs.
The practical read. Several owners describe the same successful path: the site steered them to Plush Soft or Luxury Firm, it was wrong, they paid to exchange, and the second one worked. That is a good outcome with a price attached, and the price is on the page below.

Measure it when it arrives
This is small, specific, and we have not seen it reported anywhere else.
Several owners report receiving a mattress that was not the height they ordered. Two of them, independently, in the same thread:

A second owner, replying in the same conversation, says it happened to them the week before:

The second adds that the $99 return fee was still charged. Twenty one owners in the corpus describe a unit that did not match what they expected in some way, including one couple who tried a Classic Luxury Firm in a showroom and found the delivered one behaved differently:

Twenty one accounts out of 245 is not a rate and we will not turn it into one. It is enough to justify one free action: the mattress arrives assembled and uncompressed, so measure its height before the delivery crew leaves.
Sagging is the single biggest grievance
Thirty one owners raise sagging or body impressions, and they are almost unanimous: 27 negative against 4 positive, spread across 23 different threads.
The timescales owners give, where they give one, run from two months to five years, clustering early.

That owner adds that an exchange was refused past twelve months, which is where the policy matters: the trial is 365 nights, and after it the route is the warranty, which covers impressions past an inch and a half and charges $149 from year three for a repair and recover.
Set against that, the corpus does contain owners several years in and still content, including a couple approaching six years on a Plush Soft with a topper.
What owners genuinely praise is the delivery and the exit
This is the part the brand gets right in the corpus, and it is worth saying plainly on a page whose headline number is unflattering.
The bed arrives assembled, in the room, with the old one taken away, and that shows up repeatedly as the reason people took the risk. Of the owners who talk about white glove delivery and collection, eight of ten are positive. One who returned a mattress reports the process going exactly as described.

Three limits to know before ordering. The return costs $99 and so does an exchange, the trial restarts from zero when the replacement arrives, and adjustable bases can be neither returned nor exchanged, which one owner in the corpus discovered after getting a full refund on the mattress alone.

What Reddit cannot tell you about this mattress
Anything about most of the range. The Classic is the only product with a solid sample, at 56 clear verdicts. Latex Hybrid draws nine owners, Zenhaven eight, HD five, Rx four, Contour5 one. The HD leans positive at four of five, and we are giving that to you as four of five rather than as eighty percent.
Anything about Loom & Leaf. Owners still discuss it. It is no longer sold.
How long it lasts. Ninety three owners are in their first year and only twenty one are three years or more in.
Anything by sleeping position. Sixty one owners state one, but back and stomach sleepers total five between them.
One tempting comparison we will not draw. Owners who state how long they have owned it are much more negative than owners who do not. That is not a discovery about the mattress; people mention the date when the date is their grievance.
The corpus is recent. Five hundred and ten of the dated items are from 2025 and 2026, so this describes the Saatva being discussed now rather than a long history.
The bottom line
A bed that is bought well and chosen badly.
Almost nothing owners complain about here concerns the buying experience. The delivery is the best-reviewed thing in the corpus, the return works, and people who send it back rarely have a bad word for the company. What goes wrong happens before and after: the firmness they were steered toward, and how the bed holds its shape a year or two later.
So if Saatva is on your list, the decision that matters is not whether to buy from them. It is which firmness, bought with the assumption that you may pay $99 to change your mind, and with the delivery crew still in the room while you check the mattress is the one you ordered.
Worth your shortlist if
- You want a bed delivered assembled, set up in the room, with the old one taken away.
- You want a year to decide and will treat a $99 exchange as part of the plan.
- You want an innerspring feel rather than foam or a compressed bed in a box.
- You are heavier and looking at the HD. It leans positive here, on four owners of five.
Think twice if
- You are taking the site’s recommendation. Luxury Firm draws 3 positive owner verdicts out of 16.
- You expect it to keep its shape. Sagging draws 27 negative reports against 4 positive.
- You are buying an adjustable base with it. Those cannot be returned or exchanged.
- You want certainty about what arrives. Several owners report a different height than ordered.

The complaints run in both directions on the same names, with owners at 250 lb describing the Luxury Firm as too soft and others describing the Firm as unyieldingly hard. That is too few and too concentrated to score, so we are showing you the sample rather than a percentage.
Should I trust the mattress they deliver?
Check it. Several owners report ordering the 14.5 inch Classic and receiving an 11.5 or a 12, with one still charged the $99 return fee, and twenty one owners describe a delivered unit that differed from what they expected in some way. The bed arrives assembled rather than compressed, so its height is measurable on the spot, and the crew is there.
